Sheltered Instruction
  • Sheltered instruction is a means for making content comprehensible for English learners while at the same time developing their English language skills.

  • Teachers scaffold instruction to help student comprehension of content topics and objectives.

  • Sheltered instruction classrooms, which may include a mix of native speakers, ELLs, and English speakers or only ELLs, integrate language and content while infusing socio-cultural awareness.

  • ELL students receive core curriculum instruction through the use of modified English and scaffolded learning activities to ensure that material is comprehensible and students have an opportunity to achieve standards at grade level. Teachers are ESL and Elementary or Secondary content licensed.
